Elkins, W. Va – Charleston baseball pounded out 35 hits and scored 34 runs in the finale of their series against Davis and Elkins College on Saturday. It would be their sixth straight win and placed them in sole possession of second place in the Mountain East Conference South Division Standings.
Game One – Charleston 16, Davis & Elkins 4
Charleston's offense got going early in game three of the series, jumping out to an 3-0 lead in the first inning.
They fell behind in the third inning after failing to score in the second and third innings as the Senators pushed across three runs in the third and took a 4-3 lead.
The lead was short lived as the Golden Eagles plated four runs in the fourth.
Griffin Adkins knocked in a run on an RBI triple,
Giano Zuccaro singled him home and
Tyler Dellerman cleared the bases with his 12
th long ball of the season taking the score to 7-4 after the fourth.
Charleston plated one in the fifth before exploding for six runs in the sixth inning.
Martinez,
McCallister,
Karosas,
Adkins,
Zuccaro, and
Dellerman all had one RBIs in the frame.
The scoring was capped at 16 in the seventh inning by a
McCallister two-run double.
Drew Beckner got the win on the mound after entering in the third and throwing 2.1 innings with five strikeouts.
Dwayne Sumler pitched the final two innings and only allowed one hit while picking up.
Dellerman finished 2 for 3 with three RBI, two walks, two runs, and a stolen base. McCallister was 4 for 5 with four RBI, two doubles, a run scored, and a stolen base.
Game Two – Charleston 18, Davis & Elkins 3
Sam Slodic got the start on the mound in game two. He didn't allow a run through 3.0 innings and collected four strikeouts. He was relieved by
Austin Dzierwa who pitched one inning without allowing a baserunner.
The Golden Eagles plated five runs in the first two innings thanks to a
McCallister two-run double and
Dellerman's 12
th home run of the season.
The offense exploded in the fifth to put the game out of reach, scoring nine runs on eight hits. Martinez and West had run scoring doubles in the inning.
Klaserner and
Gabe Bates both had two run singles.
Kyle West doubled home a run in the sixth to make it 15-2 and
Clay Hale hit his fourth homer of the season later in the inning. The three-run blast capped the scoring for Charleston and they easily took game four 18-3.
Owen MacNeil got the win on the mound. He threw the fifth and sixth innings and allowed three earned runs.
Sam Boardwine slammed the door in the seventh striking out two and allowing two hits.
On the weekend Charleston totaled 61 runs and 68 hits which included nine home runs, 18 doubles, 22 walks, and 17 stolen bases.
West was 3 for 3 with three doubles, two RBI, three runs, three walks, and a stolen base.
Hector Carreon-Herrara finished 2 for 4 with two runs, two RBI, and a double.
McCallister was 2 for 5 with two RBI, a double, and a run scored.
Martinez was 2 for 3 with two RBI, and two runs.
The Golden Eagles will be back in action next weekend as they return home to face off against the Bobcats of West Virginia Wesleyan on Friday and Saturday. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. both days.
