How it Happened
After taking a shot to the helmet in their previous matchup with the Senators, Georgia Ryan would find herself between the posts to start at goalie for Charleston in this matchup. Early on in the game, it looked as if this one could have gone the distance as both teams would match each other's two goals in the opening seven minutes. Hannah Calvert and Destiny Jackson's goals were matched by Ari Hinton's pair who would then find the hat trick at the 7:06 mark off of the assist from Hannah Lennon. Tess Yuhas would join in on the scoring sending two past the Senator goalie for the 4-3 lead. For the Remainder of the half, the Golden Eagles would go on to score eight unanswered goals to stretch the lead to 11-3. Goals would come from Antonia Martinez, Madison Partridge, Darby Stolz, and Yuhas. Partridge found four goals in the first half with ease and her fourth would give Charleston the 11-3 advantage. After conceding a Hannah Lennon goal with three minutes remaining in the second quarter, Stolz and Sydney Verlinghieri would score the final two goals of the half to give Charleston a 13-4 lead at the break.
The scoring from both teams would slow down as there would only be one goal scored in the third period. It would be Destiny Jackson breaking the ice at the 8:46 mark to give Charleston a 14-4 lead and a running clock up by double-digits. Yuhas would find her fourth goal of the day in the final period off of the assist from Gianni Blundell, making it her sixth assist of the game. After a bizarre number of fouls had been called on the Golden Eagles, they would be down four players as Blundell, Jackson, and Lily Christensen were all sent off the field with yellow cards, in addition to Allyssa Greaver leaving for a green card. What's even more bizarre is that Charleston would not allow a goal while down four players; in fact, Madison Partridge would find her fifth goal of the game with over eight minutes remaining for the "couple of women-down" goal. Destiny Jackson's goal would be the last for Charleston as the Golden Eagles would take the 17-5 win over Davis & Elkins.
