Charleston Shuts Out and Mercy Rules Bluefield State on Senior Day

Charleston, W. Va.—The Golden Eagles improve to 30-8, as they secure the win against the Big Blue on Senior Day.

Senior starting pitcher Danielle Bauer (9-4) threw a gem with four strikeouts in three innings pitched. The only hit from Bluefield State University came off the bat of leadoff hitter Paige Whittington. Bauer and the rest of the pitching staff dominated in the circle, leading to a shutout victory over Bluefield State.

Seniors Emma Groe, Kaylee Hotchkiss and Rebekah Woody were clutch at the plate. Emma Groe went 1-for-2 with a two-run blast, three runs-batted-in (RBI) and one run scored, while Hotchkiss went 2-for-2 with a double, two runs scored and a walk. Rebekah Woody also had herself a day, as she went 1-for-2 with a sacrifice fly, two RBIs and a run scored.

In total, the Golden Eagles scored 13 runs on 11 hits and five walks. Like Groe, junior shortstop Hannah Rose had her own two run homer to centerfield. On top of that, Rose went 2-for-3 on the day with three RBIs, two runs scored and three stolen bases.

Up Next:
Charleston will host Frostburg State University in a doubleheader on Friday at 1 p.m. From there, they will close out their regular season play at home with a doubleheader against Fairmont State University on Sunday starting at 1 p.m.
