Charleston, W.Va. - The University of Charleston (19-5; 13-2) splits the day with Davis & Elkins, winning 3-0 in game one and losing 4-2 in game two.
Game One: 3 UC, 0 D&E
Sophomore Brianna McCown (12-2) had yet another solid pitching performance, striking out six Senators with only two hits and one walk allowed in seven innings pitched. Isabella Andujar put UC on the board early with a double to right-center, scoring leadoff hitter Hannah Rose. Despite the quick start, Davis & Elkins held Charleston to one run until Raegan West drove home the final two runs of the ball game in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Game Two: 4 D&E, 2 UC
Starting pitcher Danielle Bauer (6-3) shut out Davis & Elkins until a string of singles allowed them to score two runs in the top of the sixth inning. Addison Mass came in relief for Bauer in the top of the seventh inning with one runner on, but the Senators still managed to plate two more runs to close out their scoring.
Untimely hitting was Charleston's kryptonite in game two, as they collected eight hits and left six Golden Eagles stranded. They showed some fight in the final frame, picking up two runs on a single by Allysa Lake, but ultimately came up short.
