Charleston, W. Va- Charleston Baseball split a Friday doubleheader with Glenville State University.
Ethan Soderna and
Caleb Rush combined for Charleston's 10
th no hitter in School history in game one.
Game One – Charleston 11, Glenville 0
Rush started the game as an opener in the front end of the doubleheader. He would pitch just one inning but would not allow a hit. He gave way to Charleston's ace,
Ethan Soderna.
Soderna shoved to record the best outing in his career as a Golden Eagles. The graduate student tossed the next six innings without allowing a hit, walking only three and fanning five. He faced 20 batters and threw just over 90 pitches in the combined no-hitter.
The offense added two runs in the fourth.
Andre Martinez knocked in a run on a ground out and
Drew Klaserner scored one on a sacrifice fly. It would be all the insurance Soderna would need to win the opener of the four game series.
Charleston plated four more runs in the fifth and five in the sixth inning. The big swings came from
Giano Zuccaro and
Brayden McCallister who both hit three run shots in the fifth and sixth innings respectively. For McCallister it would mark his first long ball of the season.
Kyle West and
Drew Beckner added the final two runs of the game to cap the scoring at 11. Zuccaro was 2 for 2 with three runs, three RBI, and a walk. McCallister was 1 for 3 with a run scored and a three run home run.
Game Two – Glenville 3, Charleston 2
Charleston struggled on offense in game two, scoring just two runs on a first inning home run from Dellerman. His 10
th home runer of the season would be all that the Golden Eagles could muster through seven innings.
Dane Sykes pitched the bulk of the game for the Golden Eagles as head coach Robbie Britt opted to use an opener in the second game of the series. Opener,
Campbell Spradling allowed two earned through 1.1 innings of work.
Dane Sykes received the loss, but tossed five strong innings and collecting seven strikeouts. He allowed the game winning run in the fourth.
Both teams had five hits in the ball game, but the game winning run was provided by Glenville's Mason Lohr, who grounded out in the fourth to bring home Christian Davila.
The loss would drop Charleston to third in the MEC South Division Standings.
