Box Score Rockville Centre, N.Y.—The University of Charleston falls in straight sets to Queens University in first match up of the season.
How it Happened
The Golden Eagles dropped the first set of the day after a close run with the Knights. It started off strong for Charleston with a kill by Reagan McLean, but Queens quickly took the lead on a kill and service ace. Both teams traded side outs until the Knights went on a four point run to take an 11-7 lead over the Golden Eagles. After a time out by Queens, Charleston evened the score with several kills by Pia Selke, Sage Bearnson and Riley Hoff. UC could not hold the lead though, as the Knights pulled ahead to take set one.
Charleston scored first and jumped to an early 7-2 lead in set two with a service ace and two kills by Emma Shepherd and a kill by Hoff. The Golden Eagles held the lead until the Knights climbed their way back to knot the score at 15. Like the first set, both teams traded side outs until Queens eventually pulled ahead 25-23 to take set two.
The Knights quickly pulled ahead with a 7-2 lead, but the Golden Eagles fought back to tie the score at eight all with several kills and service aces. Charleston continued to battle but the Knights came out victorious and took the third and final set of the match by a score of 25-23 over the Golden Eagles.
