Golden Eagles Earn Second MEC Win Over West Virginia Wesleyan

Buckhannon, W. Va – The Golden Eagles hit the road for their first conference road match on Wednesday to take on the Bobcats of West Virginia Wesleyan. In the previous three matches with the Bobcats, the Golden Eagles had won both games by a combined score of 6-0.

The Basics
Location: Culpepper Stadium
Score: UC 2, WVWC 0
Records: UC 3-0-1 (2-0 MEC), WVWC 1-2-0 (0-1 MEC)

How it Happened
Frankie Morrow would electrify the Charleston bench with a quick opening goal in the eighth minute of the match. She would cut across defenders and run along the 18-yard box, sending a highlight-reel missile into the top left corner for the early 1-0 advantage.

Wesleyan would find two shots in the first half with one on goal that would be collected by Jordan Maynard, who sought after Charleston's fourth consecutive clean sheet in the last three matches against the Bobcats. Both sides were unable to disrupt the scoreline for the remainder of the half, giving Charleston the one goal advantage heading into the locker room.

In the 56th minute, Lina Jaime would set up for a corner from the left flag stick. She sent a curling lob into the box that would ricochet off Carina Widaur and the goalie and end up in the top left corner of the net to extend the lead to 2-0 with 34 minutes left to play in the match.

West Virginia Wesleyan would fire off five shots in the second half with just one on goal, but Charleston would maintain the clean sheet and take the 2-0 road win over the Bobcats.

An excellent takeaway from the matchup was the lack of fouls that were committed in the second half, as the Golden Eagles would have zero fouls in the 45 minutes played. Jordan Maynard earns her second shutout of the season with the help of her two saves throughout the match.
