How it Happened
There would be a bit longer of separation between the first whistle and the first goal, but Charleston would strike first as they've done in their last four matches. In the 17
th minute, Lina Jaime would strip the ball away from a Pioneer defender in Glenville State territory near the end line. Just when it looked like she was going to pick up her first assist of the day, she threw everyone off the scent as she blasted a shot on a tough angle through the Pioneer keeper for the 1-0 lead.
10 minutes later, Jaime would set up Charleston with another golden opportunity. From the left corner on the run, she sent a sailing pass just in front of the goal that found Cassidy Collins who knocked the ball in with her head to give Charleston a 2-0 advantage.
Charleston kept the pressure on as they would find their third goal just five minutes after. Sophia Mankowski would send a roller into the box past the Pioneer keeper where it would ricochet off a defender and roll into the frame to give the Golden Eagles a 3-0 lead. Charleston would go into the locker room with the advantage, allowing just four shots from the Pioneers in the half.
The Golden Eagles would waste no time after the break as Jaime would find her second goal of the match. On a quick pass from Carina Widaur, Jaime would quickly face the goal and rip a hard shot into the lower right corner of the net for the 4-0 lead.
The last goal of the match would be a long-distance effort from Hannah Goes. Alison Rothman played a ball in to the middle of the field that Goes would capitalize on with just three touches. Her third touch would be a shot to the far-left corner of the goal to give Charleston the 5-0 lead. The Golden Eagles would hang on to their advantage and earn their 3
rd clean sheet of the year.
