Charleston Downs Post and Molloy in Straight Sets

Rockville Center, N.Y.—University of Charleston Women's Volleyball had a successful day on the road, as they defeated Post University and Molloy University in straight sets to improve to 2-1 on the season.

The Golden Eagles had 97 kills on the day with 26 from Pia Selke, 19 from Sage Bearnson, and 18 from Patrycja Majos and Emma Shepherd.

How It Happened: 
Game One: 3 UC, 0 PU
Set one was back-and-forth until the Golden Eagles pulled ahead 5-4 on a kill by Bearnson. From there, Charleston was able to hold and extend the lead with several kills and service aces to secure the big 25-13 win over Post. 

Charleston jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the second set of the day, but Post managed to pull ahead after a few kills and a few Golden Eagle errors. After consistently trailing by three points, UC knotted the score up at 11 with three straight kills by Selke. The Golden Eagles went on to win set two 25-17.

Like the first two, the Golden Eagles also dominated in the final set against Post University. Towards the beginning, Charleston scored six straight points on three errors by Post and three kills by Reagan McLean, Shepherd and Bearnson. Dominant play led Charleston to another 25-13 victory over Post.

Game Two: 3 UC, 0 Molloy

Set one was close until Charleston evened the score and pulled ahead 27-25 on three straight kills by Majos.

In set two, Molloy won the first point, but the Golden Eagles tied it up and took the lead on a kill by Maria Hernandez and an attack error by the Lions. Charleston went on to lead the rest of the set to pick up the 25-18 win against Molloy.

The third and final set of the day was also successful, as the Golden Eagles continued to rack up the kills and service aces. Charleston concluded the day with a 25-17 victory over Molloy to improve to 2-1 on the season.

The Golden Eagles will host the Charleston Tournament starting on September 8 at 12pm against Millersville University.
