Golden Eagles Down Hilltoppers in Wednesday Evening Matchup

Charleston, W.Va. –  The Golden Eagles defeated he Hilltoppers with a lone second half goal.

The Basics:
Location: Welch Athletic Complex
Score: UC  1, WLU 0
Records: UC 7-1-0 (5-1-0 MEC), West Liberty 4-2-2 (3-2-1 MEC)

How it Happened:
The first half was quiet as neither team managed to score in the Wednesday evening matchup between the home Golden Eagles and the visiting Hilltoppers. Charleston Eagles took eight shots in the half compared to zero for West Liberty.

Early in the second half, Charleston had an opportunity as Jose Suarez Monaco got into a one on one with the keeper and dribbled past him, but a missed pass into the box gave the Hilltoppers a sigh of relief as they got out of a bad situation and won the ball back.

In the fifty-first minute, Joao Belmudes took a shot from the right side that was saved, but as the keeper was unable to cover it up, Giorgos Diakos was there to take the secondary shot and give Charleston the 1-0 advantage as he sent the ball into the back of the net.

Charleston continued to attack, taking over ten more shots in the half, but the singular goal would be the only thing the Golden Eagles could muster up.

The Golden Eagles would hold on to the 1-0 lead to improve to 5-1 in Mountain East Conference play.

Up Next:
Charleston will travel to Frostburg, Maryland on Sunday for a 2:00 PM kickoff with the Bobcats.
