Golden Eagles Cruise to Another Victory, Defeating Salem 94-62

Salem, W.Va.—University of Charleston Men's Basketball continues to dominate, as they pick up another win over Salem University (4-9), defeating the Tigers 94-62. The Golden Eagles improve to 9-2 on the season with this victory.

The Basics:

How it Happened:
Salem got on the board first, but Charleston quickly took control on a Tyler Eberhart three assisted by Dwaine Jones. The lead traded hands until the Golden Eagles pulled out in front on a hook shot by Eddie Colbert III and a Keaton Turner trey. From there, DeAirius Barker went on to score the next eight points for Charleston on two three-pointers and a layup, making the score 18-10. Despite the lead, the Tigers managed to catch up to the Golden Eagles on a six point run, knotting the score at 20. This did not shake UC though, as they quickly regained the lead on a free throw by Colbert III and a Barker layup. The Golden Eagles led the rest of the way, and the half ended with Charleston leading 42-33.

Charleston's momentum continued throughout the second half, as Salem could not fight their way back into the game. Colbert III started it off with a layup followed by a Jones three-pointer to extend the lead. The rest of the half featured baskets by Barker, Turner, Eberhart, CJ Meredith, Obinna Ugwuakazi and Shunta Wilson. The Golden Eagles concluded the game on a Turner layup, giving Charleston the 94-62 victory over Salem.

UC outscored the Tigers 19-11 on points off turnovers, 14-7 on bench points and 46-28 on points in the paint. Eddie Colbert III led the way with 20 points, seven rebounds two assists, a steal and shot 73 percent from the floor. Shunta Wilson played well defensively with two steals and a block, while Dwaine Jones totaled six assists to aid in the Golden Eagles offense.

Charleston will host Notre Dame College (6-6, 2-5 MEC) on Saturday, January 13 at 4pm in the Wehrle Innovation Center.
