Charleston, W.Va. – Charleston defeated the Tigers of Edward Waters on Saturday afternoon. The sweep improves the Golden Eagles to 4-0 on the season and 12-0 in sets played.

How it Happened:
The Golden Eagles came out hot on Saturday, scoring the first eight points of the match to jump out to an early 8-0 lead over the visiting Tigers. Edward Waters eventually found themselves on the score board after a kill, but Charleston extended their lead to 13-1 after a five-point run. The teams traded the next several points, but the Golden Eagle was too extensive to overcome for the Tigers, with Charleston eventually closing out the set 25-10. The Golden Eagles collected 14 kills for a .500 hitting percentage in the set. Cole Duncanson led the defense with three blocks in the set while Evens Edouard led the offense with five kills.
In the second set, Charleston set the tone once again as they jumped out 4-0 over Edward Waters. The Tigers did not let them phase them as they fought back to cut the deficit to 7-9. After allowing the Tigers to work their way back into the match, Charleston started to close the door with a five-point run to improve their lead, 14-7. The teams traded several points, but Charleston continued to pull away with the set, forcing a Tiger substitution at 20-10. The Golden Eagle went on to close out the set 25-14, collecting 13 kills.
The third set started with both teams trading side outs until Charleston went on a five-point run highlighted by three consecutive service aces from Isak Joelsson to bring the score to 11-4 in favor of the Golden Eagles. The next several points were once again traded until Charleston extended their lead once more with a four-point run, leading 17-8. Charleston conceited just five more points before closing out the set 25-13 and taking the match with a 3-0 sweep.
Evens Edouard had 11 kills in the match with a .474 hitting percentage.
