Golden Eagles Soar Past Cardinals

Charleston, W.Va. - The University of Charleston Golden Eagles welcomed Wheeling to the Welch Athletic Complex this past Sunday, October 13 in a Mountain East Conference match up.

The Basics:
Location: Welch Athletic Complex
Score: UC 5, WU 1
Records: UC 11-0-1 (8-0-0 MEC), Wheeling 0-9-3 (0-7-2 MEC)

How it Happened:
The Cardinals started the quickest and had an early one on one chance smothered by Nicolai Gundersen, before taking the lead from a corner in the 16th minute as Alvaro Ivanov rose highest to head in from close range. Ethan Zarka equalized less than three minutes later as Michail Tselios whipped in a delivery for him to head home, and then Tomas Petrungaro put them ahead soon after. Joao Silva found Samuel Montes who then laid it off for Petrungaro to curl a first-time finish into the bottom right corner. Jack Allan got Charleston's third of the contest after a scramble in the goal area from a corner left the ball waiting to be volleyed in, and Allan had no hesitation in doing so. Good play down the left-hand side led to the Golden Eagles fourth with Zarka and Petrungaro involved again, the latter laying one on a plate for Andres Sesma at the back post for his first of the season.

Into the second half and substitute Jack Kay got his sixth goal in three games in the 67th minute after a swift counterattack. Franco Tradatti was found on the left-hand side and played a ball into Caio Moraes 25 yards out. Moraes executed an audacious back heel into the path of Kay who then slotted it home past the Cardinals keeper to put the icing on the cake for the Golden Eagles, with the scoreline reading 5-1.

Next Up:
