Charleston Downs Davis & Elkins Senators 3-2

Charleston, W.Va. - The University of Charleston Golden Eagles welcomed Davis & Elkins Senators to the Welch Athletic Complex on Sunday October 20 for their penultimate home game of the regular season.

The Basics:
Location: Welch Athletic Complex
Score: UC 3, D&E 2
Records: UC 12-0-1 (9-0-0 MEC), Davis & Elkins 6-4-3 (4-4-2)

How it Happened:
The hosts got off to a flyer as captain Tristen Rose headed them in front in just the 3rd minute from a perfectly executed Joao Belmudes free kick. The Golden Eagles had another ten shots before the break, with six of those on target, including Jack Allan doubling their lead in the 22nd minute. A Stafford Dowling shot was cleared off the line for a corner, and Caio Moraes whipped that resulting corner onto Allan's head for his second of the season. The visitors pulled one back in unorthodox fashion in the 43rd minute as Jack Allan's back pass to Nicolai Gundersen ended up in his own net after a miscontrol, but Ethan Zarka helped to get the Golden Eagles back on track with a sublime 25 yard strike just 18 seconds later, with the ball soaring into the top right corner of the Senators goal to give his team a 3-1 lead heading into the break.

Into the second half and the Senators grabbed another goal back through Johan Magana. Hugo Fauli played a ball over the top of the Charleston defense and Magana pounced to loop a left footed effort past Gundersen into the top left corner to make it 3-2. In the 73rd minute, Charleston's Tomas Muller was given his marching orders following a second yellow card of the game, a mere 19 seconds after he picked up his first, leaving the Golden Eagles battling with just ten for what they thought was the remainder of the game. That was until Davis and Elkins' Ethan Streeter also picked up his second yellow of the game in the 81st minute, leaving the game ten versus ten for the last nine minutes, in which the hosts held out for the victory.
