CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The Charleston Golden Eagles men's tennis team kicked off their fall season with back-to-back victories, defeating Walsh University 6-1 on Saturday and following it up with a 5-2 win over Cedarville University the next day. After a strong showing at the national tournament last spring, the Golden Eagles returned to action with confidence, securing two key wins to build early momentum for the season.

The Charleston Golden Eagles returned to action for the first time since the National tournament last Spring and took on a familiar opponent, Walsh University.
The men's team won with a comfortable 6-1 and showed promise for a strong campaign. The Golden Eagles picked up 5 victories in singles action and won one showdown in doubles.
In doubles, the tandem of
Jorge Perez Diaz and
Marcelo Mifano Pinto, the pair that actually holds the number 1 position in the Atlantic Region after winning ITAs won their first team match together with a 7-5 score over the pairing of Luis Hernandez and Joan Dasi. At number 2 spot the Nordio and Poltbecher lost to Milgan and Kholer 6-3. After a 1-1 result in doubles, Garcia and Alias where able to clinch the doubles point with a 6-2 win over Stroehle and Kuznetsov, securing the doubles point for the Golden Eagles
Moving over to singles, at number one singles, Perez picked up a victory over Luis Hernandez of Walsh 6-0, 6-4 in his first collegiate of his senior year. Vicente Garcia started his first match with a 3 set thriller, defeating Ethan Milgan 6-1 6-7 6-2. In the number three spot, third year Marcelo Mifano won his match with a straight sets victory 6-2 7-5 over Joan Dasi. At number 4 singles, freshman Jules Alias got his first ever college match win over Lukas Kohler in a close 6-4 3-6 6-4. The last victory in singles came from Alberto Nordio, who took care of business with a 6-2 6-4 victory over Kian Balali. The Golden Eagles fell short in number 6 singles where Nils Poltbecher fell short to a strong Nicolas Stroehle 6-4 6-3.
How it Happened: UCWV vs. Cedarville
After their first win against Walsh on Saturday, Charleston had to take over Cedarville University the next day.
The men's team won this match up with a comfortable 5-2, showing their dominance.
In doubles play,
Melvin Vix and
Felipe Girondi won their first match together in number 2 doubles with a 6-4 win. At number 3 doubles,
Jules Alias and
Maximillian Bolay fell short with a 6-3 loss. It would all come down to number 1 doubles
Alberto Nordio and
Nils Potterbeck who after being down 5-4, came back and clinched the doubles point with a 7-6 victory.
Coming down to singles, at the number 1 spot, freshman Alies took care of business with a 6-1 6-3 victory. No more than 5 minutes after, teammate Nordio took the win in the number 2 spot with a 6-1 6-3 win. At number 4, Vix was able to fight and get the win with a 6-4 6-1 result. The last win from the Golden Eagles come from Bolay, after losing the first set, he was able to bounce back and take the in in the super tie-breaker 4-6 6-4 (10-3). Charleston fell short in number 3 and 6 singles where Potterbeck and
Jamie O'Shea had a good fight and lost 6-4 2-6 4-10 and 2-6 5-7 respectively.
Charleston Golden Eagles will be back on action on the road, as they will travel to North Carolina to play University of Mount Olive and Barton college.
