The Golden Eagles Keep on Rolling in the Steel City

Charleston, W.Va. - The University of Charleston Golden Eagles travelled to Point Park University for a Mountain East Conference matchup this past Wednesday at Highmark Stadium. It was their first trip back to the stadium since winning their second National Championship there in 2019.

The Basics:
Location: Highmark Stadium
Score: UC 3, PPU 0
Records: UC 13-0-1 (10-0-0 MEC), Point Park 5-8-1 (3-8-1 MEC)

How it Happened:
João Belmudes opened the scoring for the visitors in the seventh minute, sending a direct free kick over the wall and under the Point Park keeper for his eighth goal of the season. Frenchman Paul Hoste doubled the lead a minute before half time following a header by Tristen Rose and a flick on by Jack Kay, with Hoste burying it from just a couple of yards out for his first in Charleston colors. The Golden Eagles had 11 shots in goal in the first half, with eight of those on target.

In the second half UC doubled their shot count to 22 and overall had 15 of those on target. Caio Moraes grabbed the Golden Eagles' third goal in the 69th minute to seal the three points, following an assist from Brazilian compatriot Belmudes. With less than a minute to go, Point Park went down to 10 as Dominic Thieler was shown a straight red card. The Golden Eagles sit atop of the Mountain East Conference by a point, albeit with two games in hand of their closest challengers Concord.

Up Next:
Charleston will travel to West Virginia Wesleyan College on Sunday October 27, kick off scheduled for 3pm.
