Glenville, W. Va. – The Golden Eagles claimed the Mountain East Conference South title on Wednesday evening after defeating the Pioneers 2-1.

How it Happened:
In the first half, the game unfolded with both teams trading shots in their quest to score. Charleston struck first, finding the net at the 13-minute mark with a goal from Anna Van Der Reijden. The back-and-forth battle continued as the Pioneers pressed for an equalizer. They managed to level the score at the 33-minute mark, thanks to a goal by Sophia Calkins.
In the second half, the Pioneers aimed to capitalize on their late first-half momentum while the Golden Eagles looked to stop their momentum and reclaim the lead. Both teams created scoring chances early on, but it wasn't until the 62-minute mark that Kim Smal put the Golden Eagles ahead with a goal. The Pioneers fought hard to respond, but ultimately fell short, finishing the game with a 2-1 loss.
Anna Van Der Reijden and Kim Smal each netted a goal for the Golden Eagles, while Lina Jaime provided the lone assist. Both Reijden and Smal led the team with two shots each, including one on goal. Jordan Maynard made one save during the game for the Golden Eagles.
