Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Connor Hartwell

A Good Team Performance Downs the Bobcats

Charleston, W.Va. - The University of Charleston men's soccer team welcomed Frostburg State to the Welch Athletic Complex this past Sunday, October 6 for a Mountain East Conference match up.

The Basics:
Location: Welch Athletic Complex
Score: UC 5, FSU 0
Records: UC 9-0-1 (7-0-0 MEC), Frostburg State 6-2-1 (4-2-1 MEC)

How it Happened:
The first 25 minutes of the contest was a tight affair, with the Bobcats having the first good chance of the game. In the 22nd minute, Carlos Quintero Rivas smashed a left footed strike past Nicolai Gundersen in the UC net but it cannoned off the left upright. A couple of minutes later, Joao Belmudes struck a free kick off the right hand post, with the keeper left stranded. Substitute Jack Kay eventually opened the scoring for the Golden Eagles in the 30th minute, reacting well to a poor defensive header before rounding the keeper and passing it into the net. Kay doubled his tally six minutes later, showing great composure after latching onto a rash back pass from the Frostburg defense. Charleston were smelling blood and 63 seconds later they had their third. Sam Newell played a channel ball over to Caio Moraes who set Andres Sesma, and Sesma wrapped a ball into Jose Suarez Monaco on the edge of the area who took a touch and finished into the right hand side of the net.

Into the second half and the Golden Eagles weren't finished quite yet. Moraes got himself on the scoresheet following good play from Hugo Prats Deusdad on the left. After driving to the end line, he rolled the ball across the six yard area to Moraes who couldn't miss. Ethan Zarka rounded off the scoring for the hosts in the 60th minute. He took the ball off a Bobcat defender and drove into the area before finishing exquisitely in the bottom left corner.

Up Next:
The Golden Eagles will next be in action this Wednesday, October 9 away to Salem University, with kick off scheduled for 7:30pm.
