How it Happened:
A rematch of the 2023 MEC Tournament Championship was bound to be a battle for the Golden Eagles and the Bobcats.
Charleston had a prime opportunity to score just over 10 minutes in when a header from a corner was saved by the Bobcat keeper. Then the rebound hit the crossbar and bounced out, both shots coming from Frankie Morrow. Frostburg was then quick to get into their attacking third, taking several shots and forcing Charleston's Jordan Maynard to make two saves in the early stages of the contest.
Several minutes later, the Bobcats continued to fire off shots, forcing another three Charleston saves. Charleston then found their fourth shot of the game from a Juliette Lucas header in the 22
nd minute, but the Frostburg keeper easily collected to tame the threat.
Neither team created many chances for the remainder of the half until the 38
th minute when Juliette Lucas took a shot that nearly missed the goal as it hit the crossbar. Charleston then had one more chance at goal as the half neared end, but the shot missed wide right and the teams headed to the locker rooms tied at 0-0.
Both teams were evenly matched at the start of the second half, with UC threatening but struggling to create significant chances. Just past the 55-minute mark, Maynard ventured out of her area to clear the ball, but letting the Bobcat forward come away with it in the end. Fortunately for the Golden Eagles, the Frostburg State shot at goal hit the crossbar and the game remained 0-0.
Around the 65-minute mark, Demari Curry had two chances of her own for Charleston, but after a Bobcat save and sending the next shot wide, Charleston's threat was neutralized, and the game continued in a stalemate.
In the 81
st minute of the match, the Bobcats had a late run down the right wing and played a pass into the box that found Morgan Mrizek. Mrisek took a weak shot at goal but found the back of the net to give Frostburg State a late 1-0 lead over Charleston.
The Golden Eagles did not manage another shot in the remaining minutes of the game, eventually falling to the Bobcats 1-0 and losing their first conference match since the 2022 season.
