Golden Eagles Soar Into the Mountain East Conference Final

Charleston, W.Va. - The University of Charleston Golden Eagles hosted Frostburg State in the Mountain East Conference post season play off semi final this past Wednesday at the Welch Athletic Complex.

The Basics:
Location: Welch Athletic Complex
Score: UC 2, FSU 0
Records: UC 17-1-1 (13-1-0 MEC), Frostburg State 10-8-1 (7-6-1 MEC)

How it Happened:
The hosts were in control in the first half but couldn't find a breakthrough. They had twelve shots in total, forcing the Bobcats goalkeeper into seven saves in the process. Tomas Petrungaro's long-range effort was parried to Michail Tselios in the seventh minute, and then Caio Moraes came closest from a free kick just a minute before half time, but it was saved well. The visitors had one shot in the first half but did not work Kostantinos Parisis between the sticks.

Into the second half and just 76 seconds in, Joao Silva was brought down inside the Frostburg State area, forcing the referee to point to the spot. Jack Kay stepped up but the 6-foot 7 Jan Foret was on hand to push it onto the post and keep the game scoreless. However, Jose Suarez Monaco made sure it didn't stay that way for long when Sam Newell gave him the ball 25 yards out, and he sent a low effort into the bottom left-hand corner to break the deadlock. In the 55th minute, Caio Moraes doubled Charleston's lead after Franco Tradatti won the ball back for the team in white. Moraes, similar to Suarez Monaco, struck a low effort goalwards and into the same corner. Frostburg came close to getting a goal back in the 76th minute when Zach Harpel hit the bar, but the Golden Eagles held out for a 2-0 victory to punch their ticket to the final.
