CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The University of Charleston women's basketball team suffered its first defeat of the 2024-25 season, falling 68-55 to Edinboro University on Wednesday morning at H. Bernard Wehrle Arena. Despite a strong defensive effort and several standout performances, the Golden Eagles couldn't overcome a hot-shooting Edinboro squad.

How it Happened:
Charleston struggled out of the gate, scoring just 13 points in the first quarter while Edinboro capitalized on its fast start with a 21-point effort. Junior guard Paris Stokes led Charleston with 12 points and six rebounds, but it wasn't enough to close the gap after a tough first half.
The Golden Eagles improved in the second quarter, narrowing the deficit with key plays from Ksenija Mitric, who knocked down two three-pointers en route to an eight-point performance. Charleston entered halftime trailing 32-25 but was unable to find a consistent offensive rhythm.
In the third quarter, Charleston's shooting woes continued, as they were held to just 11 points. Kiara Cruz provided a spark off the bench with 11 points, including three shots from beyond the arc, but Edinboro's defense remained stout.
The Golden Eagles made a final push in the fourth quarter, outscoring Edinboro 19-17 during the period. Sydney Bolles contributed seven points and two rebounds, while Harper Annarino added eight points with clutch free throws down the stretch. Despite their late surge, Edinboro sealed the game with efficient free-throw shooting and solid defense.
Charleston shot 31.5% from the field and 36% from three-point range, compared to Edinboro's 39.7% overall shooting. The Golden Eagles were also plagued by 19 turnovers, which led to 15 points for the Fighting Scots.
