Charleston W. Va. – The University of Charleston Golden Eagles welcomed West Virginia State University to the Welch Athletic Complex on Sunday afternoon for the final of the Mountain East Conference Tournament.

How it Happened:
It was a tight affair between two evenly matched teams, and that showed in a scoreless first half. Both keepers were forced to make saves, with Jordan Maynard making three for UC. In the second half, the game opened up, with a total of 22 shots between the two sides. Sandra Linares scored her 16th goal of the season to put the Yellow Jackets ahead in the 67th minute, before the Golden Eagles were awarded a penalty for a foul on Cassidy Collins. Lina Jaime stepped up and buried it to equalize and set up a nervy last sixteen minutes. Both sides had chances to win it, but ultimately State took theirs in the 89th minute as Sara Paris Filter got on the end of a pass from Linares on the counter attack to seal it and take the trophy out of the clutches of the Golden Eagles. 2-1 it finished.
