Athens, W.Va. - The University of Charleston Golden Eagles traveled to Concord this past Wednesday for their final Mountain East Conference regular season game of the season.
The Basics:
Location: Callaghan Stadium
Score: UC 2, CU 3
Records: UC 16-1-1 (13-1-0 MEC), Concord 14-2-2 (11-1-2 MEC)
How it Happened:
The Mountain Lions got off to a lightning quick start and were 2-0 up inside nine minutes. Julian Correa opened the scoring in the seventh minute as a Ted Roberts corner was headed back across the 6 yard area by Kai Forsyth, and Correa was on hand to rise highest and nestle it past Nicolai Gundersen. Syrus Conolly doubled the lead two minutes later, racing past the Golden Eagles defense and placing his effort into the bottom right corner. Charleston tried their best to get back into the game before half time, with plenty of chances going amiss from the likes of Jack Kay, Caio Moraes, and Tomas Muller. Those missed chances came back to haunt them as Conolly got his second and Concord's third before half time, as a long punt from Concord's goalkeeper Nathan Scargill went over everybody giving Conolly a header from seven yards, which Gundersen initially saved, before he put in the rebound.
Into the second half and the Golden Eagles came out battling. Jack Kay pulled one back less than ten minutes after the restart, going round Scargill and just about bundling the ball over the line. Caio Moraes then made it 3-2 with an outstanding volley to give the visitors hope with 29 minutes to play, but Concord held out to hand the Golden Eagles their first loss of the season.
Up Next:
The University of Charleston will next be in action next Wednesday November 13 in the Mountain East Conference Post Season Tournament Semi Final. Their opponent will be decided this Sunday when West Liberty and Frostburg State battle it out.
