Charleston, W.Va. – Charleston defeated the Frostburg State Bobcats on Wednesday evening to improve to 3-0 in Mountain East Conference play.

How it Happened:
The Golden Eagles won the tip to open up the conference match, quickly converting into a two-point play on a layup by Obinna Ugwuakazi. The teams traded several baskets until Charleston began to slightly pull away with the lead.
Charleston held a six-point lead at the under fifteen media timeout, and then increased their advantage to a 18-point lead, 33-15 with just over six minutes left in the half. Frostburg State fought back to cut the deficit to eleven, trailing 39-28 as the buzzer sounded for halftime.
Charleston shot 50% from the arc, shooting 8-16, five of those coming from the freshman duo of Lipkins (3) and Shelton (2).
The Golden Eagles opened up the second half with a three pointer from CJ Meredith and then another three from Dwaine Jones. Charleston and Frsotburg State traded buckets, the Golden Eagles holding a 12-15 point lead for the first five minutes of the half. After the media timeout, the Bobcats fought their way back, cutting the deficit down to eight, but Charleston responded right back with a three and a tip-in dunk from Matthew Shelton to bring their lead back to fourteen, 60-46.
The next ten minutes were filled with both teams trading points up and down the court, resulting in the Golden Eagles holding a ten-point advantage as the buzzer sounded at the end of the contest. The final score Charleston 78, Frostburg State 68.
The Golden Eagles shot 40% from the arc, making 12-30. Two Golden Eagles led the scoring, Dwaine Jones and Matthew Shelton both finishing the night with 18 points.
