Glenville, W.Va. – The Golden Eagles defeated the Lakers in a single nine inning game at the Sue Morris Sports Complex.

How it Happened:
With a delayed start to the contest, both teams were rearing to go and get on the board first. Mercyhurst would break the scoring open in the second inning by plating one run on two hits, but for the next two and half innings both teams were kept quiet neither team managing a run.
The Golden Eagles tied the game up in the top of the fifth with some heads up baserunning by Carter Rust. Unfortunately, the Lakers responded with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning to take the lead once again, the score now 3-1.
Despite the deficit, Charleston quickly responded in the top f the sixth by opening the inning with Drew Klaserner base hit. Klaserner would move around the bases with a stolen base and passed ball before scoring on a Casey Finck single up the middle. JD Armstrong followed up with a double putting runners on second and third for the left-handed hitter in Hector Carreon-Herrera. Carreon-Herrera flew out to center field to score Finck from third, equalizing the score for the Golden Eagles. With two outs in the inning, Charleston was not done just yet. Evan Ulrich worked a work before passing the bat to AJ Karosas who singled through the right-side scoring Armstrong from third. After a Mercyhurst pitching change, Carter Rust singled in the infield, loading. The bases for Brayden McCallister. The nine-hole hitter worked a walk, plating another run for Charleston in the inning. The Golden Eagles headed to the bottom of the sixth with a 5-3 lead over the Lakers.
The next inning and a half were scoreless, but in the top of the eighth Charleston did some damage at the plate. The Golden Eagles plated six more runs on five hits and the help of two free passes for the Laker pitching staff. Carter Rust packed a punch with a two-run blast in the inning.
The Golden Eagles would go on to close out the Lakers 11-3, improving to 4-2 on the season. Austin Dzierwa picked up his first win of the season with the victory.
