CHARLESTON, W.Va.—University of Charleston Softball (39-2, 25-1 MEC) climbs two spots in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association after sweeping West Virginia State University (20-27, 11-15 MEC), West Virginia Wesleyan College (16-29, 6-20 MEC) and Davis & Elkins College (25-22, 12-14 MEC) in three doubleheader match ups this past week. The Golden Eagles also notched their thirteenth mercy rule of the season with two mercy rule victories over Davis & Elkins and one over Wesleyan.
UC currently leads the country in win percentage, defense, strikeout-to-walk ratio and WHIP.

Highlights:
Chloe Elliott (8-0) added three more wins to her win column after leading her team to a 7-1 victory over the Yellow Jackets and a pair of shutout victories over Bobcats and Senators. The Seton Hill transfer has only given up seven walks and eight doubles on the season, which is the best in the Mountain East Conference. Elliott was named MEC Pitcher of the Week for her outstanding performance.
Hannah Rose drove in a run versus State to reach a career milestone of 100 RBIs. Earlier this season, the senior also notched the 200
th hit of her career and now sits at 223 hits. After batting .555 (10-18) on the week, Rose also extended her hitting streak to 27 games. As of Wednesday, April 25, Rose leads the MEC in batting average (.492), on base percentage (.555), on base plus slugging percentage (1.293) and runs scored (56). Nationally, she is third in runs per game (1.61), sixth in batting average, tenth in on base percentage and eleventh in stolen base percentage (.968).
Also reaching a career milestone was Senior
Brianna McCown (26-1). The Marshall University transfer punched out a Senator on senior day on Sunday to tally her 500
th strikeout. She went on to strikeout three more batters that day to put her at 503 strikeouts in total. McCown is head and shoulders above other pitchers in her conference, as she leads the MEC in strikeouts (203) and wins (26). Glenville State's Holly Brehm and Fairmont State's Delaney Haller trail the Golden Eagle with Brehm totaling 168 strikeouts and Haller totaling 19 wins. Statistically, McCown also sits atop the national leaderboard. She ranks second in victories (26), fifth in strikeout-walk ratio (10. 68 K/BB), twelfth in strikeouts (203), thirteenth in strikeouts per seven innings (9.5) and fifteenth in hits allowed per seven innings (4.34).
Continuing the milestone pattern for the week was Junior
Raegan West. In game two of the doubleheader against Davis & Elkins, West blasted the first home run of her collegiate career. Also contributing via home runs was
Isabella Andujar(2), Rose and
Allysa Lake. In addition to her long ball, Lake went 10-17 (.588) on the week with a home run, seven RBIs, two runs scored and a walk.

The Golden Eagles will close out regular season play this weekend on the road. They will head to Frostburg, Maryland on Friday, April 26 to battle the Frostburg State Bobcats in a doubleheader before they take on the Fighting Falcons in Fairmont, West Virginia on Sunday, April 28.
