Golden Eagles Win Third Consecutive MEC Tournament Title

Charleston, W.Va. – Charleston defeated the West Virginia State Yellow Jackets to claim their third consecutive Mountain East Conference Tournament title.  
 
The Basics:

How it Happened:
West Virginia State opened the scoring by secured their first run in the top of the first inning due to an error that led to one run. Shortly after, Chris Morris slammed a homer to right field, bringing in two more runs, State leading 3-0. Moving into the second inning, Kyle Waters added another run for State with a solo home run to center field.
 
Despite the 4-0 deficit, the momentum shifted in the bottom of the second for Charleston. With two runners on, Eric Chartier blasted a homer to left field, racking up three RBIs and cutting the deficit to 4-3 State.
 
The game took a dramatic turn in the bottom of the third inning as the Golden Eagles surged ahead, scoring seven runs on six hits, establishing a commanding 10-4 lead. The highlight of the inning was a powerful home run to right field by Drew Klaserner, driving in three crucial runs.
 
The Golden Eagles continued their dominance in the bottom of the sixth inning, adding six more runs on three hits. Damian Witty's double, Klaserner's walk, JD Armstrong's single, Carter Rust's sacrifice fly, and Brayden McCallister's single contributed to this scoring spree.
 
Trace Hartman secured the win for the Golden Eagles pitching four innings, allowing four hits and four runs while striking out five and walking one. Scott Templeton, Cody Godbold and Trey Ritchie delivered solid relief innings for Charleston, holding State scoreless.
 
The Golden Eagles showcased an impressive offensive display, amassing 14 hits throughout the game. Witty and Klaserner led the charge with three hits each, while McCallister and Armstrong also contributed multiple hits. McCallister's three walks bolstered the Golden Eagles' patient approach at the plate, resulting in a total of 10 walks for the team. Additionally, the Golden Eagles displayed agility on the base paths, accumulating three stolen bases during the game.

With the conference title, Charleston will get an automatic bid into the NCAA DII baseball tournament. The Golden Eagles will await the selection show tonight at 10:30PM to see where they will be seeded in the Atlantic Regional.
