CHARLESTON, W.Va.— For the second time in program history, the No. 9 nationally ranked and No. 3 seeded University of Charleston Softball earns the NCAA Atlantic Region Championship title and secures their spot in the NCAA DII College World Series. UC fell to the No. 4 seeded Kutztown University (37-25, 19-13 PSAC) 1-0 in game two to force an if necessary game before Charleston bounced back to win it all  2-0 in game three.

How it Happened:
In day two of the NCAA Atlantic Super Regional, as the visiting team, the Golden Eagles dropped game one to the Golden Bears 1-0 after Kutztown hit a home run to walk it off in the seventh. This is the first time Charleston has been shut out all season. Senior Brianna McCown (32-5) had eight strikeouts and only allowed four hits in the loss. Offensively, UC also only posted four hits with Allysa Lake going 2-3 and Hannah Rose and Bianca Polistina each going 1-2.
 
With McCown in the circle for UC, the final game of the tournament also started out as a pitching duel. Charleston picked up the first hit of the game in the bottom of the second inning on a single through the left side by Allison Rubal. The first run did not come until the fourth inning though. With one out, Lake singled to center field and was pinch ran for by Sophomore Kaleigh Serra. Serra quickly advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Rubal and scored on a single off the bat of Polistina. 
 
Kutztown continued to be shut out by McCown, as the Golden Eagles tacked on another run in the fifth inning. Lindsey Phares led it off with a double to left center before she found herself on second following a successful sacrifice bunt by Junior Raegan West. Junior Brittny Ogg then doubled, plated a run and advanced to third after the ball got past the center fielder, making the score 2-0, Charleston. With one out, Rose singled on a perfectly placed bunt and later stole second, but Kutztown secured the final two outs on a pop up to second base and a line out to left field. 
 
Both teams were shut out in the sixth inning to keep the score at 2-0. McCown was twirling a perfect game going into the seventh inning, but following a pair of strikeouts, the Golden Bears singled through the left side to break up the perfect game. It was to no avail though, as McCown induced a fly out to center field to secure the win and punch their ticket to the NCAA DII College World Series. 
 
Up Next:
Charleston will fly down to Longwood, Florida to take part in the NCAA DII College World Series. The tournament will be held from May 19 through May 25 with seedings and game times to be announced.
