UC Drops Game One of NCAA DII World Series to UIndy

Box Score LONGWOOD, Fla.—No. 5 University of Charleston Softball (51-7, 27-3 MEC) falls to No. 4 University of Indiana (58-5, 25-1 GLVC), 9-0 in game one of the NCAA Division II World Series. 
 
The Basics:
Location: Boombah Sports Complex
Score: 9-0 (5-Innings)
 
The Greyhounds rallied in the first inning, scoring seven on five hits and an error. They led off the inning with two straight walks and plated the first two runs of the game on a double down the left field line. 
 
The Golden Eagles struggled to get the bats going, as they only picked two hits in the five-inning game. The two hits came on a double off the bat of Junior Hannah Meyer in the third inning and a single off the bat of Senior Lindsey Phares in the final frame of the game. Senior Brianna McCown (32-6) picked up the loss after allowing two hits, three walks and five runs to score in the top of the first.
 
Up Next:
Charleston will have an off day tomorrow before they battle their way through the loser's bracket in hope of winning their first national title. With this loss, they will take on No. 1 Auburn Montgomery on Tuesday, May 21 at 11am. The Warhawks dropped their first game to the No. 8 seed in Lenoir-Rhyne earlier today, 1-0.
