CHARLESTON, W. Va.— University of Charleston Women's Volleyball hosted the UC Invitational on Friday and Saturday where they swept their competition. Out of 14 sets played this weekend, the Golden Eagles only dropped two. They defeated Central State University and Barton College in straight sets and Roberts Wesleyan University and Converse University in four sets.
For their outstanding performances this weekend, Pia Selke and Kate Strong were voted to the UC Invitational All-Tournament Team by the coaches. On the weekend, Pia Selke notched 41 kills, while Strong put up an impressive .718 hitting percentage with 29 kills and only one error in 39 total attacks.

How it Happened:
The Golden Eagles started the tournament off with a bang, as they went on to defeat Central State in straight sets 25-8, 25-19, 25-13. Emma Shepherd led the team offensively with eight kills and a .583 hitting percentage, while Abby Avila led the team with 12 assists.
Charleston dropped their first set of the tournament in set one versus Roberts Wesleyan 25-23. This did not shake the Golden Eagles though, as they went on to defeat the Redhawks 25-16, 25-13, 27-25 for the four-set victory. Shepherd pounded a team leading 15 kills with Selke trailing closely behind with 14. London Upchurch and Avila also worked in tandem offensively with 24 assists from Upchurch and 23 assists from Avila.
On Saturday, the Golden Eagles started the day off with another four-set victory, but this time over the Converse Valkyries. Like the game against the Redhawks, UC dropped the first set by a score of 25-21. Again, this did not shake the Golden Eagles. They defeated the Valkyries 25-17, 25-19 and 25-22 for another win. Reagan McLean put up 17 kills while Selke, Strong and Riley Hoff each put up 11. Defensively, the team totaled 18 blocks.
UC finished the tournament just like they started it—with a straight set victory. The Golden Eagles won set one 25-19, set two 27-25 and set three 25-15. The team tallied 48 kills with Hoff claiming 10 of them. Hoff also had a team-leading 14 digs, while Sophia Knowles led with two solo blocks.

Charleston will host the Golden Eagle Invitational from Friday, September 20 to Saturday, September 21. The Golden Eagles will play their first match against Bowie State University on Friday at noon.
