Charleston, W.Va. - The University of Charleston Golden Eagles welcomed #12 Saginaw Valley to the WAC this past Saturday to kick off a Homecoming weekend of sport.
The Basics:
Location: Welch Athletic Complex
Score: UC 2, SV 1
Records: UC 5-0-1 (4-0-0 MEC), Saginaw Valley 3-1-0
How it Happened:
The Golden Eagles started the game well, and had two good chances in the first half, one from a corner which
Joao Silva headed just over, and
Michail Tselios had a strike from just outside the area which was always rising. The half finished scoreless with no shots on target for either side.
Into the second half and Saginaw Valley's Ryan Bovee collected two yellow cards in the space of 2 minutes to get given his marching orders, leaving Charleston a man up for the final 30 minutes. The Golden Eagles kept pushing for the opener, and it finally came in the 71st minute when Tselios got on the end of a Franco Tradatti clip over the top to loop a header over a helpless Cardinals 'keeper. Caio Moraes then doubled UC's lead in the 84th minute with a majestic finish into the stanchion of the top right corner. It would look to be plain sailing for the hosts for the remainder of the game, but Saginaw Valley pulled one back less than a minute later with a good header, making the last five and a half minutes an interesting watch.
The Golden Eagles saw out the game to see off the #12 in the nation and improving the record to 5-0-1 (4-0 MEC).
