How it Happened:
The first half of play on the rainy overcast Sunday was scoreless, both teams taking their shots but neither team netting a goal. Charleston had shots in the half and the Yellow Jackets had six. Charleston forced three saves on the West Virginia keeper, ready to find the back of the net in the second half of the match.
In the 58
th minute, Charleston found themselves on the attack and substitute
Alison Rothmann sent a ball near the goal mouth looking for striker
Juliette Lucas. After the ball ricochet off the post,
Lucas found the ball at her feet and after sending the goalie one direction, sent a shot the other way and into the back of the net for a 1-0 Charleston lead.
Eleven minutes later the Golden Eagles were awarded a throw in and they used it to their advantage. Left back
Hannah Goes threw a beautiful ball to
Lina Jaime who passed it forward to
Juliette Lucas who was in a one-on-one with the keeper. The MEC leading goal scorer found her seventh of the season as she beat the keeper and out Charleston ahead 2-0.
The Golden Eagle defense held strong for the remained of the match, finishing the game out with a 2-0 victory and an undefeated league standing.
