Charleston Men’s Volleyball Drops Two Matches to Lincoln Memorial

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The University of Charleston Men's Volleyball team faced tough competition this weekend, falling in two matches to Lincoln Memorial University at the Wehrle Innovation Center. Despite the losses, standout performances by the Golden Eagles, including a stellar showing from Xander Bomert, highlighted the weekend.

Score: L, 3-0 (25-19, 27-25, 25-17); L, 3-1 (25-20, 27-25, 25-22, 25, 22)

How it Happened:
In Friday's match, Charleston was swept in straight sets, 25-19, 27-25, 25-17. The Golden Eagles were led by Bomert, who tallied 12 kills on .241 hitting, contributing a team-high 13 points. Kai Cousins added 11 kills, while setter Nathan Avitia dished out 34 assists and collected 4 digs.

On Saturday, Charleston battled hard but ultimately fell in four sets, 25-20, 25-27, 25-22, 25-22. Bomert once again shined, finishing with 22 kills on .295 hitting, leading all scorers with 22.5 points. Cousins added 16 kills, and Avitia facilitated the offense with 48 assists and an ace. On defense, Erel Bardah recorded 9 digs, and Curtis Raines contributed solid play in the back row.

Bomert's outstanding efforts earned him the title of EIVA Offensive Player of the Week, recognizing his impressive performances across both matches.

Charleston will travel to face McKendree University on Saturday, Jan. 25. The match is scheduled for 8 p.m. at the Harry M. Statham Sports Center in Lebanon, Illinois.
