Golden Eagles Win Streak Continues with Road Victory Over Concord Mountain Lions

Athens, W.Va. – The Golden Eagles won their fifth consecutive contest of 2025 with the help of a Dwaine Jones double-double, 16 points and 11 assists.

The Basics:
Location: Carter Center
Score: UC 87, CU 70
Records: UC 11-5 (8-2 MEC) Concord 7-7 (6-4 MEC)

How it Happened:
Charleston opened the contest with an 8-0 lead, six of their points coming from the Freshman Ja'Corey Lipkins with back-to-back threes in the first three minutes of play. The Mountain Lions found there footing and brought the score within reach as the teams entered the under ten media time out, Charleston leading 22-21.

In the next several minutes of play, Charleston took another lead, this time by seven, but that did not last long as the Mountain Lions fought back and eventually took the lead, 37-36, their first lead of the contest. The Concord lead did not last long either as a three-pointer by Lipkins for Charleston evened the scoring at 40-40 seconds before the buzzer sounded for the half.

About the first eight minutes of the second half featured the team trading buckets back and forth, Concord holding a small lead for several minutes until the Golden Eagles knotted the score at 58-58 with 12:09 left on the clock.

The remainder of the contest featured Charleston taking the lead and never looking back. The Golden Eagles held a 19-point lead at one point, outscoring the Mountain Lions 47-30 in the half.

The Golden Eagles had five players in double digit points, including both Ja'Corey Lipkins and Dwaine Jones with sixteen a piece. Jones also tacked on 11 dish outs in the contest.

Up Next:
The Golden Eagles will have another road test this Saturday, January 25th at 4:00PM. Charleston will take the short trip to Institute to face the Yellow Jackets of West Virginia State.
