Golden Eagles Escape Concord with Last-Second Victory

ATHENS, W.Va. — The University of Charleston Golden Eagles women's basketball team secured a narrow 64-63 win over Concord University on Wednesday evening at the Carter Center in an intense Mountain East Conference (MEC) showdown. Charleston improved to 10-7 overall and 6-4 in MEC play, while Concord fell to 8-9 (5-5 MEC).

The Basics:
Location: Carter Center
Score: 64-63
Records: UC 10-7 (6-4 MEC); Concord 8-9 (5-5 MEC)

How it Happened:
The Golden Eagles started slow, trailing 24-16 at the end of the first quarter as Concord capitalized on strong perimeter shooting. However, Charleston rallied in the second quarter, tightening their defense and outscoring the Mountain Lions 19-11 to head into halftime down just 35-34.

Charleston dominated the third quarter, outscoring Concord 22-13 behind clutch three-point shooting and a solid transition game. Sydney Bolles and Ksenija Mitric contributed crucial baskets, pushing the Golden Eagles into a 56-48 lead entering the fourth.

The final quarter was a nail-biter. Concord surged back, outscoring Charleston 15-7, but a pair of late free throws by Paris Stokes with just one second left sealed the Golden Eagles' victory. Stokes finished with 12 points and six rebounds, providing key plays on both ends of the court. Mitric and Bolles each added 12 and 10 points, respectively, while Jamia Nesmith's consistent presence on the boards (8 rebounds) and scoring (11 points) was critical in the win.

Charleston shot 44.4% from the field, highlighted by six three-pointers, and held a 45-34 rebounding advantage over Concord. Harper Annarino chipped in 10 points off the bench, providing valuable depth for the Golden Eagles.
