Charleston Women’s Basketball Outlasts Point Park in 80-72 Victory

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The University of Charleston Women's Basketball team edged out a resilient Point Park squad, 80-72, on Wednesday evening at the Wehrle Innovation Center. The Golden Eagles (6-7, 3-4 MEC) leaned on a dominant fourth quarter and standout performances to secure their second consecutive victory.

How it Happened:
Charleston trailed early, falling behind 22-18 after the first quarter. Jamia Nesmith got off to a strong start, scoring in the paint and grabbing rebounds to keep the Golden Eagles close.

The second quarter saw Charleston lock down defensively, outscoring Point Park 18-13 to take a narrow 36-35 lead into halftime. Ksenija Mitric hit a key three-pointer, while Harper Annarino provided a spark off the bench with her rebounding and shooting.

The third quarter turned into a back-and-forth affair, with Point Park briefly reclaiming the lead. Despite the pressure, Annarino knocked down timely threes, and Nesmith continued her inside dominance to keep Charleston within striking distance at 61-54 entering the final frame.

In the fourth quarter, the Golden Eagles came alive, outscoring Point Park 25-11. Nesmith was unstoppable, finishing with a double-double of 27 points and 12 rebounds. Annarino added 16 points, including clutch baskets down the stretch. Mitric chipped in 13 points, and Paris Stokes facilitated the offense with six assists.

Charleston's bench also played a key role, contributing 23 points and maintaining the defensive intensity throughout the game.
