Charleston sweeps Glenville in straight sets

GLENVILLE, W.Va. — On Friday, Oct. 10, Charleston closed things out in straight sets at Glenville's Waco Center, sweeping the host Pioneers and controlling the match from the opening whistle.

The Basics:
Location: Waco Center
Score: 3–0 Charleston (25–14, 25–22, 25–23)
Records: UC 11–9 (4–1 MEC), Glenville ST. 8-11 (1-4 MEC)

How it Happened:
Charleston jumped on Glenville early and put the frame out of reach with a sustained mid-set run that opened a double-digit margin. The Eagles attacked extremely efficiently in the, with Giuliana Batista and Patrycja Majos supplying much of the scoring punch. Sophia Knowles provided steady, high-percentage swings that kept the offense balanced and prevented Glenville from staging a comeback. Charleston closed the set comfortably and carried that momentum into the next frame. Set 1 — 25–14:

The second set was far tighter, with both teams trading points and several ties through the middle portion. Glenville matched UC's offense at times, but Charleston answered the Pioneers' pushes with timely kills and defensive stops late in the frame. Consistent setting and clean sideouts allowed UC's primary hitters to finish rallies when it mattered most. A short late run by Charleston produced the separation needed to take the set and a 2–0 lead. Set 2 — 25–22

The final set was a back-and-forth battle that stayed close into the late rotations. Charleston found an extra gear offensively down the stretch. The Eagles notched 17 kills and hit .343 in the set and made several crucial stops at the net when the score tightened. Patrycja Majos' work near the block and Giuliana Batista's ability to convert pressure swings were key in the closing points, while UC's defense kept Glenville from stringing long runs together. The Eagles finished the set 25–23 to complete the sweep. Set 3 — 25–23

Giuliana Batista paced the offense with a match-high 12 kills and added seven digs. Sophia Knowles was efficient, posting 10 kills on a .563 hitting percentage. Patrycja Majos supplied a major net presence with 10 kills, and Divine Muo contributed nine kills.

Team totals featured a balanced performance: 46 kills, 45 assists and 40 digs — numbers that underscored Charleston's balanced attack and steady defense throughout the night.
