Four Without Reply for the Golden Eagles

Wheeling, W.Va. - The University of Charleston Golden Eagles travelled to Wheeling this past Sunday for a Mountain East Conference matchup.

The Basics:
Location: Bishop Schmitt Field
Score: UC 4, WU 0
Records: UC 9-0-3 (6-0-2 MEC) Wheeling 1-9-1 (0-8-1 MEC)

How it Happened:
The first goal came early on in the 13th minute. A quick free kick released Sam Newell down the right hand side and his cross found the head of Martin Echarren in the middle of the area. The Wheeling keeper got his hands to the header but was unable to keep it out, putting the Golden Eagles ahead. In the 25th minute, Tomas Petrungaro was taken down just outside the area and the official gave Wheeling's Henri Falcon his marching orders, forcing the Cardinals to play with 10 for the rest of the contest. Leonardo Dutra, Tomas Muller, and Jack Allan all had chances in the first half but were unable to convert, leaving the Golden Eagles just one up heading into the break.

Into the second half and UC didn't have to wait long for their second. Joao Silva found himself in down the right hand side and crossed a ball into the area. Sam Newell was on the receiving end this time and superbly volleyed the ball into the right hand side of the net. Leo Dutra squandered a big opportunity from a couple of yards out following Martin Echarren's effort being tipped onto the post, and Echarren also put another great opportunity over the crossbar. He did get his second of the game however in the 78th minute as Samuel Montes clipped a ball into the area, and Echarren rose to fire a bullet header past the Cardinals keeper. UC weren't finished there either; in the 85th minute, McKenzie Mason got on the end of a Sam Newell corner, and the ball found its way into the net with the help of a Wheeling defender.
