Golden Eagles Earn Road Point in 1-1 Draw with Wheeling

Wheeling, W.Va. – Following a dominant performance against Salem, the University of Charleston women's soccer team hit the road again for a Sunday afternoon matchup against Wheeling University. The contest ended in a hard-fought 1-1 draw.

How It Happened
Both teams came out with energy and, trading early goals within the first 10 minutes. Charleston struck first in the 5th minute when Sydney Crowe capitalized on a rebound after her header ricocheted off the post. She followed up with a composed left-footed finish to give the Golden Eagles a 1-0 lead. Wheeling responded almost immediately, taking advantage of a Charleston defensive miscue to level the score at 1-1. The remainder of the first half featured promising chances from both sides. UC nearly retook the lead in the final minutes before halftime, with shots from Casamento and Debaecker forcing solid saves from Wheeling's goalkeeper. On the defensive end, Ines Degli Esposti made a key save to keep things level going into the break.

The second half opened with Charleston on the front foot again, as Mya Mills and Crowe both registered shots in the opening minutes. From there, the match turned into a physical midfield battle, with both teams struggling to break through. Tensions rose late, with both sides picking up yellow cards in the final five minutes. Wheeling threatened with late chances, but Charleston's defense held firm to preserve the draw.

Sydney Crowe's goal marked her third of the week, continuing her strong run of form.
