Golden Eagles Stay Composed Late to Defeat Frostburg in Five

Frostburg, Md. — The University of Charleston Golden Eagles hit the road Friday night to take on Frostburg State in Mountain East Conference play. The match lived up to its intensity, going the full five sets before Charleston claimed a 3–2 victory inside Bobcat Arena.

Score: UC 3–2 (25–14, 24–26, 27–25, 21–25, 16–14)
Records: Charleston 13–9 (6–1 MEC); Frostburg State 6–11 (1–5 MEC)

How it Happened:
The opening set started in Charleston's favor as the Golden Eagles jumped out to an 8–2 lead. UC continued to build on that momentum behind two aces from Giuliana Batista, sparking an 11–4 scoring run that shifted the set completely in Charleston's direction. The early push proved to be enough, as the Golden Eagles closed out set one 25–14 to take a 1–0 lead.

Set two opened evenly with the score tied at 5–5 before Frostburg found a rhythm. The Bobcats went on a late 4-point run to take a 20–17 lead, putting UC on the defensive. The Golden Eagles battled back to even things up at 24–24, but an attack error followed by a kill from Frostburg's Dani Kunkle sealed the set 26–24, tying the match 1–1.

In set three, neither team could gain control early, with the score even at 8–8 and again at 12–12. Frostburg's Paige Mock gave the Bobcats a brief edge with two service aces, but Charleston answered with five straight points to swing momentum back. The set tied again at 24–24 before kills from Patrycja Majos and Divine Muo secured a 27–25 win, giving UC a 2–1 match lead.

Set four began with Frostburg taking a quick 4–0 lead, but Charleston responded with four straight points of its own. The two teams remained locked at 10–10 before Frostburg gained control late, stretching the lead to 20–15. UC rallied for a 6–1 run to cut the deficit to 22–21, but the Bobcats managed to hold on and take the set 25–21, forcing a decisive fifth.

The final set saw both teams battle with everything left in the tank. Charleston came out with fire, racing to a 5–0 lead. Frostburg slowly chipped away and tied the score 14–14, but the Golden Eagles stayed composed. Back-to-back blocks from Kate Strong and Patrycja Majos sealed the victory, giving Charleston the 16–14 set win and a 3–2 match triumph.
