How It Happened
After a tough loss to Fairmont State on Wednesday, the Golden Eagles were determined to bounce back strong on home turf and solidify their standing in the conference. The turning point came early when Linsey Hackney entered the game in the 8th minute, replacing the injured Anae Buehlmann, and she made an immediate impact. Just five minutes later, Hackney unleashed a stunning shot from outside the box to open the scoring.
Point Park responded before the half-hour mark with a header, capitalizing on a rebound after a close-range save by Charleston goalie Ines Degli Esposti. The score was tied, and both teams fought hard for control. Ultimately, it was Charleston's leading scorer, Li-Lou Debaecker, who broke the deadlock. Following some impressive buildup play from Demari Curry, Emilía Dís Óskarsdóttir delivered a precise one-touch cross to Debaecker, who found the back of the net. The first half ended with Charleston up 2-1.
The Golden Eagles came out firing in the second half. Senior Anna Gregor unleashed a powerful 20-yard strike to extend the lead to 3-1. Not long after, Hackney again showcased her playmaking skills by setting up Ciara Casamento on the right flank, who calmly fired a long-range shot for her first goal of the season, pushing the lead to 4-1. Point Park managed to pull one back in the 71st minute, but Hackney sealed the win with her second goal of the match in the 84th minute, making it 5-2 and putting the game out of reach.
Linsey Hackney was the star of the day, contributing two goals and an assist, demonstrating both her scoring ability and vision.
