Golden Eagles in 4-0 Rout

Charleston, W.Va. - The University of Charleston Golden Eagles welcomed Frostburg State to the Welch Athletic Complex this past Wednesday for a Mountain East Conference matchup.

The Basics:
Location: Welch Athletic Complex
Score: UC 4, FSU 0
Records: Charleston 11-0-3 (8-0-2 MEC) Frostburg State 5-7-2 (5-5-1 MEC)

How it Happened:
Charleston started the game well and controlled the game from the outset. They had a couple of corners early and that's where the first goal came from. A Franco Tradatti corner was headed away to the edge of the area, but Sam Newell was on hand to hit a half volley into the top right corner with the aid of a slight deflection. Down the other end, Konstantinos Parisis was on hand to smother a Frostburg through ball. A big chance went begging 18 minutes in as Tomas Petrungaro was found by Tradatti, but the 6 foot 7 Foret in the Bobcats net denied him. Jack Allan had a header from a corner but couldn't convert, Petrungaro had another chance saved, and Sam Newell had two other opportunities in a half where the Golden Eagles had fourteen shots with seven on target, but went into the break just the one goal ahead.

Into the second half and Leo Dutra had the first chance after the restart, cutting in on his left but curling just over. Four minutes later, Tomas Muller found Petrungaro in the area but he couldn't keep his free header down from six yards. In the 59th minute, Kevin Garcia-Torres was given a second yellow after kicking out at Tomas Muller, so the Bobcats had to play the remainder with ten. Three minutes had passed when Charleston finally doubled their lead. Newell and Petrungaro were involved again, and the latter flicked on the prior's corner, with Joao Silva finishing it off from a yard out for his first of the season. In the 70th minute, another corner brought a third goal for the Golden Eagles. Newell was again the provider, this time for a Samuel Montes header, his second of the season. UC weren't done there though, as Jiang Ziyue (Jerry) put the icing on the cake with eight minutes to go. A short corner routine involving Montes and Miku Dawit found Tomas Muller at the back post. He headed back across the goal for Ziyue to tap in on the line. The Golden Eagles finished as 4-0 victors.
