Charleston, W.Va. — The University of Charleston women's volleyball team went on the road Tuesday night for another Mountain East match up, facing a tough West Virginia Wesleyan team inside the Rockefeller Center. The Golden Eagles battled through three tight sets and had stretches of strong play, but momentum swings late in each frame made the difference. Charleston's offense found rhythm at times, and the defense came up with key stops, yet the Bobcats found ways to close out points down the stretch.
The Basics:
Location: Buckhannon, WV (Rockefeller Center)
Score: West Virginia Wesleyan 3, Charleston 0 (25–18, 25–18, 25–21)
Records: Charleston 16–10 (8–2 MEC), West Virginia Wesleyan 14–8 (6–4 MEC)
How it Happened:
Set one opened as a back-and-forth battle with four early ties before Wesleyan found rhythm midway through the frame. The Golden Eagles trailed narrowly at 14–12 behind kills from Divine Muo on the outside and a block assist by Kate Strong. However, the Bobcats capitalized on Charleston errors and finished the set on an 11–6 stretch to win 25–18.
The second set was the most competitive of the night, featuring nine ties and two lead changes. Charleston's offense found more consistency, with Muo and Patrycja Majos connecting on several key swings to keep the score within one through the midpoint of the set. Abby Avila guided the offense with quick distribution across the front line, helping UC hold pace until a late Wesleyan serving run opened the gap. The Bobcats again closed strong, pulling away 25–18 behind 16 kills and just five errors in the frame.
In the third set, Charleston pushed to extend the match, rallying from an early deficit with three straight kills from Muo and Strong to cut Wesleyan's lead to 15–13. Fortner anchored the defense with several crucial digs, while Avila's precise setting kept UC within reach late. The Golden Eagles closed the margin to 22–20, but Wesleyan's balanced attack delivered the final blows to take the set 25–21 and complete the sweep.
