Charleston Falls to Frostburg State on the Road

Frostburg, Md – The Golden Eagles traveled to Maryland for an early Sunday morning matchup against Frostburg State but were unable to carry momentum from their midweek win, falling 2-0 at Bobcat Stadium.

The Basics
  • Location: Bobcat Stadium
  • Final Score: UC 0, FSU 2
  • Records: Charleston (4-4-1, 4-2-1 MEC), Frostburg State (5-3-1, 3-2-1 MEC)
How It Happened
Charleston entered the match riding high after a dominant 8-0 victory over West Liberty but faced a much stiffer challenge in the Bobcats.
Frostburg wasted no time applying pressure. Just minutes in, a free kick delivered from the midfield line led to a controversial penalty call after a challenge in the box involving UC defender Alison Rothmann. Frostburg's Mary Greco converted from the spot to give the hosts an early 1-0 lead. The rest of the first half was evenly matched, with both sides recording five shots apiece, but neither able to break through. Charleston went into the break trailing by one.

The Golden Eagles looked to respond early in the second half, with Debaecker forcing a save from the Frostburg keeper just five minutes after the restart. However, the Bobcats began to take control, generating a series of chances and keeping the UC defense busy. Charleston made a late push in the final 10 minutes with shots from newcomers Zailee Roberts and Sydney Crowe, but neither attempt found the back of the net. Frostburg sealed the match in the 85th minute with a second goal, putting the game out of reach.
