Daniels, W.Va. — Pau Sanchez played Wednesday's final round of the 2025 Mountain East Conference Men's Golf Championship at 3-under par to help the University of Charleston stave off a threat from Glenville State and sweep the individual and team titles.
Sanchez put together his best round of the three-day event when he needed it most, firing off five birdies and a pair of bogeys for a third round 69. Sanchez, a senior from Spain, held off Point Park freshman Milo Thim by two strokes to earn medalist honors. Sanchez and Thim were the only men's golfers under par after the 54-hole event on the Cobb Course at the Resort at Glade Springs. Sanchez, Thim, Glenville State's Daiki Aiura, Wheeling's Zak Collins, and Fairmont State's Caleb Young were recognized on the MEC's all-tournament team by virtue of a top-five finish.
Thim was tied for the lead after Monday's Round 1, but played the final round at even par with a trio of offsetting birdies and bogeys. Aiura and Collins also played Wednesday's round at even par and each moved up one spot on the leaderboard, while Young surged three spots thanks to a final-round 70 (2 under par).
Charleston captured the team title for the second consecutive season. In addition to Sanchez, freshman Noah Dever finished eighth and junior Joan Panisello tied for 11th. Glenville State entered Wednesday's final round with a two-shot advantage on the defending champions, but UC finished +3 on Wednesday while the Pioneers were +8.
