Scintillating Seven Secures Regular Season Title for Men's Soccer

Pittsburgh, Pa. - The University of Charleston Golden Eagles travelled to Pittsburgh on Monday for their penultimate Mountain East Conference matchup of the season.

The Basics:
Location: Highmark Stadium
Score: UC 7, PPU 0
Records: Charleston 14-0-3 (11-0-2 MEC) Point Park 7-8-2 (7-5-2 MEC)

How it Happened:
The Golden Eagles started the game on the front foot and never let up. Leonardo Dutra and Jose Suarez Monaco had a couple of chances early on, and then the two combined in the 20th minute to open the scoring. Joao Silva's pass was dummied by Suarez Monaco who spun and received Leo Dutra's round the corner pass to finish beautifully off the bottom of the post. Seven minutes later, it was two. Silva was again involved in the build up, feeding Sam Newell down the right hand side and his clipped cross was met beautifully by Caio Moraes at the back post to head home. Golden Eagles skipper Franco Tradatti then got in on the act in the 34th minute after driving with the ball and playing a one two with Dutra at the top of the area and firing first time into the corner. UC weren't done there though as Dutra got himself on the scoresheet following a great first time through ball from Tomas Petrungaro, and sent the Golden Eagles into the break 4-0 to the good.

Into the second half and it took just five minutes for Charleston to get their fifth. Dutra repaid Petrungaro by finding him through the Pioneers defense, and Petrungaro made no mistake slotting it past the keeper. UC's sixth goal of the afternoon came in the 64th minute as good pressing from Samuel Montes forced a loose ball and Newell picked up the pieces, feeding Mattia Marini on the left hand side of the area to drill into the corner for his first in Golden Eagles colors. Five minutes later, Martin Echarren made it seven. Petrungaro was involved again as his cross field pass found Echarren's feet, and he smashed the ball into the top right corner off the upright from just outside the area to cap off a wonderful afternoon for the boys in Maroon, and to confirm the Golden Eagles as MEC Regular Season Champions.
