Golden Eagles Punch Ticket to Nationals for Seventh Consecutive Season

| By:

Lock Haven, Pa. – At the NCAA Atlantic Region Championships on Saturday morning, the University of Charleston men delivered a gutsy team effort to place second overall, finishing just two points behind Shippensburg, while the women wrapped up their season with a 14th-place team finish in a strong 24-team field. The meet began under ideal racing conditions on the historic Lock Haven course, marking the men's final tune-up before the NCAA National Championships.

The Basics:
Location: Lock Haven, Pa. – NCAA Atlantic Regional Championship
Score: Men 2nd (62 Points), Women 14th (359 Points)

How it Happened:
Charleston's men turned in one of their best races of the season, finishing just two points shy of the regional title. The Golden Eagles got off to a conservative start in the 10,000-meter race, sitting outside the top four teams after the first mile. Sticking to their race plan, UC stayed patient in the longer distance and began to move through the field midway through the race as their back-end scorers picked off competitors one by one.

Up front, the Golden Eagles' trio of Hugo Hewitt, Harry Witt, and Thomas Crockett stayed in the lead pack through the middle miles and closed strong, all finishing inside the top ten — the only team in the field to do so. Hewitt placed sixth overall, Witt finished ninth, and Crockett crossed in tenth. Caleb Gilbert delivered a late push for 15th place, while Jules Geffroy-Remot was 21st as the fastest fifth scorer of any team. With all five runners earning All-Region honors, Charleston tallied 62 points to finish just behind Shippensburg's 60, both teams well ahead of third-place Davis & Elkins at 100.

Women:
The Golden Eagles women closed out their 2025 season with a 14th-place team finish, highlighted by strong efforts from their young lineup. Sophomore Abbey Bolton led the way with a 44th-place finish, followed closely by fellow sophomore Amanda Ferrante in 49th. Rounding out the scoring for Charleston were Sara Campana in 67th, freshman Hallie Simmons in 87th, and freshman Ava Lightfritz in 91st.

Despite missing out on a national qualifying spot, Charleston's women showed continued progress and depth throughout the season. With three underclassmen in the team's top five, the Golden Eagles gained valuable experience and will return an even stronger and more seasoned roster next fall.
