Charleston, W.Va. — The University of Charleston men's basketball team faced a tough challenge Wednesday night, as the Golden Eagles came up short against West Liberty.

How it Happened:
The Golden Eagles found themselves trailing early in the contest, down 4-0 to the Hilltoppers before taking their one and only lead of the contest at 5-4. From there, the Hilltoppers grew a lead jumping out ahead 19-7 at the 12:44 mark. The Golden Eagles battled back bringing the deficit within three-points, but West Liberty continued to stay out in front. The Hilltoppers scored the final points of the half at the 2:39 mark, leading 31-24 over Charleston. The final minutes of the first half were scoreless sending the Golden Eagles to the locker room trailing by seven.
The Hilltoppers began to build their lead back up in the second half, Charleston trailing by 22 at one point in the half. Despite the large deficit, the Golden Eagles shot better in the second half, shooting 45% in the second compared to 37% in the first. Charleston sank 41 points in the half but the Golden Eagles eventually fell to the Hilltoppers 82-65 at home.
