Athens, W.Va. — The University of Charleston men's basketball team came up just short on Saturday afternoon, falling 82–78 at Concord University in a matchup defined by big momentum swings.
The Basics:
Location: Carter Center
Score: UC 82, Concord 78
Records: Charleston 4-3 (1-1MEC), Concord 4-3 (2-0 MEC)
How it Happened:
The Golden Eagles opened the game with confidence, dictating the pace and knocking down shots early to build a 38–32 halftime lead. Their ball movement created clean looks, and the defense kept Concord from finding any rhythm through the opening 20 minutes.
But the tone shifted quickly after the break. Concord came out firing, stringing together a series of high-energy runs and erupting for 50 second-half points to seize control. The Mountain Lions pushed the tempo, attacked the paint, and forced UC into difficult defensive rotations. Even as the game tilted, Charleston refused to fold. Senior guard Braden Chapman carried much of the offensive load, finishing with 27 points and 7 rebounds, keeping the Golden Eagles within striking distance possession after possession.
Charleston trimmed the deficit to a single possession several times in the final minutes, but each push was met by a timely Concord answer. In the end, the second-half surge proved too much to overcome as Concord closed out the narrow win. The loss interrupts Charleston's early-season momentum following their strong MEC opening victory to Glenville State.
