Charleston Sweeps Weekend Series Against Sacred Heart

FAIRFIELD, Conn. — The University of Charleston men's volleyball team secured back-to-back road victories over Sacred Heart this weekend, earning a sweep on Saturday before claiming a four-set win on Sunday at the William H. Pitt Center.

Charleston (5-6, 2-0 EIVA) dominated Saturday's match with a straight-set victory, taking down the Pioneers 25-18, 25-21, 26-24. The Golden Eagles hit an impressive .321 as a team, with Xander Bomert and Kai Cousins leading the attack with 13 kills each. Setter Paul Stommel facilitated the offense with 35 assists while also contributing 10 digs. Defensively, Braxton Francis and Cousins added three blocks apiece to keep Sacred Heart (3-3, 0-2 EIVA) in check.

On Sunday, Charleston continued its strong performance, claiming a 3-1 (25-17, 25-18, 20-25, 25-13) victory to complete the weekend sweep. Bomert delivered a standout performance with 22 kills while hitting .342, and Francis added nine kills on a .636 hitting percentage. Stommel orchestrated the offense with 49 assists and three service aces. Despite a third-set stumble, the Golden Eagles quickly regained control in the fourth, cruising to a decisive 25-13 win.

Charleston returns home to host Harvard University on Friday, Feb. 14, at the Wehrle Innovation Center. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. as the Golden Eagles look to continue their momentum in EIVA play.
